Where have you gone??

Seeing as our favourite game has disappeared into the ether I thought this is as good a time as any to catch up with your blogs and add a little of my own. I'm amazed how well this blog has grown and I've poured over every written word (not forgetting lovely pics too)!!

I owe Jazz an apology as I've kept her waiting a long time for the attached picture and its terrible quality cos my scanner is broken and although I put a new one at the top of my birthday wish-list (Saturday gone) I didn't get one. So had to use iPhone camera to copy an already poor quality print.

I would like to assure you I am in no way claiming any affiliation with the gorgeous ageing rock star that is Sting, nor am I trying to name drop or appear significant in any way ... honest ... I got into this photo by virtue of my husband getting unbelievably drunk at a charity auction when he insanely took the bid from £75 up to £350 for the privilege of 2 concert tickets and a chance to rub shoulders long enough for a photo to be snapped! That was my month's food bill blown in a second!!

Enough of that - can I just say how much I enjoy the chat that goes on whenever I get chance to log-in. I can't say I've ever encountered anyone I've wanted to block from view and I think it would make following the chat even more difficult when its at its busiest. I spend lots of time whizzing up and down the page to see which response belongs to which initiator. If bits were missing from my screen I'm sure I'd find it too confusing for my addled 50 year old brain!

: ( Going through cookie withdrawals.

Why can't I get in to play?

deleting posts!!!

ok guys,

Newbie!!! :0)

Hey Everyone!!! Just wanted to drop an official hello to the blog. As many of you know I am new to not only the blog but to bonus solitaire as well. I thought I would tell you all how I came to fall in love with this game. :0) I have been out of work since Feb. due to a work related injury. Since then I have had a lot of time on my hands. One day about a month or so ago I was fishing through my IPod looking for a new game. I had begun to get sick of the other ones I was playing. Anyway I found bonus solitaire. I have to say I have always been a huge fan of solitaire since before I can remember but what sealed the deal were the COOKIES. LOL. As you can see by my name I love cookies so as soon as I saw a game that incorporated them I was intrigued. I began playing every day just to get my cookie fix. I don’t keep cookies in the house so this was a way to enjoy cookies without the calories. Ha ha ha!!! Anyway I kept watching the chat go on below and one day just deiced to sign in. I think Surfy and Beans where one of the first people I spoke to. I really have grown to enjoy the interactions with everyone in the chat and am glad to be a part of it. As Beans stated one night, “we are like a family”.

Cookie Bonus Tips & Techniques

It's been a while since I've posted on this blog - I certainly wouldn't want you all to forget about me. There have been quite a few "How-To" posts lately, so I felt compelled to continue the trend.

I've discovered since beginning to play Cookie Bonus Solitaire how cleverly-designed this game really is (as those of us poor addicts can certainly testify). I've played several Klondike-based solitaire games in the past, but with the incorporation of bonuses and cheats, this is certainly one of the most unique. In fact, I've found that I've had to adjust the way that I play Klondike in order to optimize my score, and so I thought that it might be interesting to start a thread to discuss tips and techniques for this game.

Now, some of you may find these techniques to be useful. Some of you will say, "Duh! How else would you do it?" And undoubtedly some of you will think, "How does this clown even finish a single deck?" I should make it clear that I don't think that I have all the best techniques - just watch my scores when I am online sometime and that will become clearly evident. This is just how I usually handle certain game situations. Please feel free to comment and add your own best tips & techniques.

Finally, I realize that many of us visit Fat-Free solely to relax, have a little fun playing a deck or two, and chat with our buddies, and that you could care less about your total game score. As I've said before, there are many different ways to enjoy this site - Vexxed and his crew are quite astute in this respect. However you spend your time on Fat-Free is fine by me (as long as its not abusive to other members of the community) and I look forward to the pleasure of your company!

#1 - Use your cheats wisely. Okay - you've only got four of them, and only three are really useful while playing out the deck (more on the fourth one later). Most of you are aware that as you complete decks, your points per card played and final bonus increase proportionally. That being the case, your chance to post higher scores increases with each deck that you complete. Therefore, completing as many decks as possible should be your first priority if you wish to generate large deck scores. We all know that completing decks becomes increasingly more difficult once your cheats are no longer available. My opinion is that you should use your cheats - especially on the first two or three decks - only as a last resort. In other words, it might make sense to deal through the cards in your hand several times until your "cookie count" is down to one and finish deck one with a low score, yet preserve all of your cheats for a later deck. Of course, if you find yourself in a situation where you have a couple of 500-point Dueces face-up on the table but you haven't drawn any Aces on your first trip through your hand. In this case I wouldn't hesitate to use the Find Aces cheat and cash in the points right off the bat.

#2 - Pick the right time to use your cheats. Yes, this is related to tip #1 above, but a little different. When you do decide to use a cheat, try to use it in a situation in which you can make several moves once the cheat has been played. For example, you have two Dueces face up in your hand and maybe a three and four of the same suit face up on the table - this might be the best time to use your Find Aces cheat. Maybe you have a black Queen in your hand on top of an Ace, a red Jack and red King face-up on the table with nothing under the Jack, and an empty spot on the table. Use your Any Space cheat to put the Queen in the empty spot, play the Ace, play the Jack on the Queen, etc. You get the picture...

#3 - Pay attention to the cards in your hand. Try to remember what cards you saw in your hand after dealing through the first time. I do this especially with Aces, because it helps me decide if I should play my Find Aces cheat. If there's a chance that I can play a card "naturally," I try to do so to preserve the cheat card - even if it means sacrificing a few points for the chance of scoring higher later. Of course - as I stated in tip #1 - be very careful when sacrificing "sure points" for what "could be."

#4 - Expose as many of the table cards as possible. If I have a choice between playing a red Eight in my hand and a red Eight on the table, I'll play the table card every time. While it may sometimes be frustrating having a lot of cards in your hand, you can at least see them and you have the Shuffle and Any Space cheats to get to the cards you need.

#5 - Treat your Kings with respect, but only when you can see them. One of the biggest differences between Cookie Bonus and regular Klondike is the way in which I handle Kings and empty spots on the table. If a King is face-up on the table, I make it a priority to move him to an empty spot. If there are no Kings face-up on the table and I have a choice of moving a card off of a pile or one with nothing underneath, I will always move the card on the pile - again relating to tip #4 above. There is one important play on a King that seems at first to be contrary tip #4. If there is one empty spot on the table, a red Queen on the table with nothing underneath, and an black King in your hand and a red King on top of a pile on the table, play the King in your hand to the empty spot, move the red Queen onto the black King, and move the black King to the recently-vacated spot.

#6 - Cash in your cookies as soon as possible. All of your points hinge on the number of cookies that you've accumulated. I always try to cash in a card that has a x2 Cookie Bonus on it. You can always move the card back down to the table - the points that you earned for the card will be deducted but your cookie count stays the same. This is especially important if you have a few 500-Point Bonuses left to play. More on this in #7.

#7 - Manage the auto-play feature. One of the most frustrating parts of the game is the auto-play feature in which cards are automatically moved to your Finish pile in consecutive order by suit. While it may be convenient at times in that it saves you several finger-taps when finishing a deck, more often than not the cards won't be moved in the order in which you prefer. For example, there may be X2 Cookie Bonuses on the Ten of Diamonds and Jack of Spades, and a 500-Point Bonus on the Eight of Hearts. Even though you might be able to play the Ten and Jack first if you had control, if the auto-feature takes over, it will inevitably play the Eight first, costing you 2000 points! The goal is to hold onto a card that keeps the Eight from being played automatically, yet allows you to play the Diamond and Spade suits up to the Ten and Jack. I find this to be one of the most challenging parts of the game, but incredibly rewarding when you are able to pull it off!

#8 - Strategize before playing the Pile-to-Hand Bonus. The Pile-to-Hand Bonus is useful more often than not (probably why it's called a "Bonus"), but sometimes it can leave you stuck with cards in your hand that you can't get to without using Shuffle or Any Space. If you have more than one play available at the time the Pile-to-Hand Bonus can be played, think about what you want to do before playing it. This is especially important if some of your other plays are on piles with only one face-down card. Do you want to play the Bonus, move the face-down card to your hand, and leave an empty spot with your next play? Or do you want to play your other card first so you can play the face-down card on the table?

#9 - Use Peek to your advantage. Okay. It's the cheat we all love to hate. As I implied in tip #1, Peek is the one cheat that is essentially useless - while playing out the deck. I have maybe used it once in the last 100 decks that I've played; however, this doesn't make the cheat absolutely worthless. You may have noticed that upon completing a deck, you are awarded a final bonus which is the product of the number of cookies that you've obtained, multiplied by the number of decks you've completed, multiplied by the number of cheats that you have left! So, don't use Peek just for the sake of using it - save it to increase your deck completion bonus.

#10 - Take your time and don't give up! I don't know how many times I've noticed a play sitting on the table that I could have made two rounds ago or dealt the next three cards in my hand just as I see a play that I could have made from my hand. All it takes is one mistake to make the difference between completing a deck and a 200-point Surrender. And if the Surrender is inevitable, don't pull the plug until you've played every point that you can. You still get credit for points that you've accumulated on un-completed decks. That extra 50 points may seem like peanuts compared to a decent deck score, but after a couple of hundred Surrendered decks it will add up!

New Fat-Free Community Features

Hi everybody!

OK, lots of questions have been raised about the new change uploaded last night. Hopefully this post will help to address these:

Buddy Scores
This score is based on how many people have added you as a friend. You will see the number of people who have added you, but you will not know who they are unless they've told you themselves. This score is in a new field which can be found on your user profile.

Add Friend and Ignore User
You can add friends as buddies to your Friend List.

To add your buddy:
  1. Click on your prospective buddy's profile
  2. Close to the top of the page, right-hand side, you will see "Add Friend"
  3. Click on "Add Friend" to add this user as a buddy.
You can also choose to ignore a user in the chat room. Clicking this feature means you will never have to see anything that they say in chat. Ever!

To enable this feature:
  1. Click on the user's profile
  2. Close to the top of the page, right-hand side, you will see "Add Ignore"
  3. Click on "Add Ignore" to engage complete removal of the irritating person from your chat view, thereby promoting self-harmony as well as improving the quality of your life and chat playtime in general. ;-)

Friends and Ignore User Lists
In case you should forget whom you've chosen as a buddy and/or whom you're currently ignoring, both of these lists can be found within your profile under "Edit Settings."

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or if I've forgotten to add a necessary detail to any of this.

Thanks!

Jazz <3

New "Ignore" feature

I just read that as of yesterday, from a user's profile you can now click "Ignore User" and you'll never see anything they say in chat. Good for those few players that can't keep their chat clean and verbally attack other players with foul language!

You can also mark someone as your Friend from their profile. In your user profile, there is a new field for "Buddy Score" which is based on how many people have marked you as their friend.

Have a great day!

Hey Guys,
Need help - I was going to post pics of family on profile page, how do I do this?  Can there be more than one pic?
Thanks!

get rid of PEEK cheat!

Yadira and i were talking at 3am this morning and we were talking about getting rid of the peek cheat and thinking about changing it to something else. my idea was adding a skip deck cheat (because i cant get past 4 decks :P) but nobody in the room at the time liked it. they all were talking about having an undo cheat. so maybe if we all leave enough feedback about BOTH of them we could have 5 total cheats. or we can just try to get a diff cheat instead of PEEK!! id like to hear what everybody thinks. good night!

New to the blog!

Hi folks....I am finally getting around to posting on this blog. I play poker mainly (mostly because Solitaire frustrates the crap out of me LOL), but have always been a solitaire fan ( I actually played Solitaire for a while before daring to go in the poker lounge! ) I know a lot of you from visiting both rooms back and forth, so for those that dont me....consider yourself fortunate LOL. I will update my info in a bit, I managed to post a photo of myself (a crappy one at that but its the only one I have in my laptop at present). I like seeing all of your photos and blog entries (I have been reading through a bunch trying to place faces to names) and will try to post regularly. Thanks Jazzy for adding me!

Solitaire is DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's 10 am here in beautiful Bolingbrook IL. For the past 3 hours I have been unable to get on my phone to play a little cookie bonus! Do you realize how horrible it is to watch Teletubbies with my 3 year old daughter without having a solitaire distraction? I actually have to pay attention! Teletubbies is a mind blowing show. Its constant repetition is giving me an aneurysm!

This sucks, see you all later, I'm gonna switch to Sesame Street. At least Big Bird has a personality. Dipsy and co. should be banned from the airways.

How to upload images on Photobucket and post HTML

This is mainly for Bruce because he asked but I figured I'd let you all in on it.

The question was, "how do I post pictures in blogs?"

The answer - First go to www.photobucket.com and on the main page there will be a green icon that says, JOIN NOW, it's free. You must have a user name and password to access this site. Once you have completed the registration process, again return to the main site and in the top right corner enter your new user name and password.

Okay you are now in the site. I the middle of the page you will see a box that say, "Upload Images & Video" directly to the right of that is a "choose files" button in blue. Click on that button and this will take you to your hard drive. That's where whatever image you want to post will be saved. Usually in my pictures or my documents.

Click on the image you want to upload from your computer and hit select. This will automatically begin an uploading process. Once the upload is complete it will show up on the screen, it will say image uploaded and ask you to put in a title of your picture. Then hit the blue save and continue button...

After hitting your save and continue button it will return you to your main screen or "photo album". Once on the screen you will see your image slightly smaller in a box below your original upload button.

Under the image will be a list of choices, EMAIL & IM, DIRECT LINK, HTML CODE, IMG CODE... If you want to post this image into a blog or bulletin you need to copy the HTML CODE and then once you got to the blog or bulletin of your choice you would just paste it.

Once you have pasted the HTML code into the blog box you would post it and the image will appear!

if you have any questions or comments please feel free to ask.

Now bruce, I want to see a blog on here with an image!

Good Luck and Happy Interneting.

3G, Not G3

Hi all,

I'm sure we're all grateful to ThatAdGirl for volunteering to post info on the new iPhone in an attempt to dispel the misinformation floating around the chat. However, a little bit of info in the post has created even more confusion, so I'm posting this to clarify for everyone:

The name of the network and the new iPhone is 3G, not G3.

Thanks to the sharp eyes in the chat for pointing this out!

Yours,

Jazz <3

G3 iPhone Confusion

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I haven't been chatting lately. Seems EVERY TIME I play Cookie Bonus, I get the freeze and have to restart. Not fun.

I have noticed while lurking, however, lots of disinformatiion about the new iPhone G3.

The G3 actually doesn't stand for 3rd generation, but rather the fact that the new iPhone will be able to use AT&T's G3 network.

In other words, as an option to Edge and Wi-Fi, the new iPhone will sometimes be on the G3 network (when available). The G3 network is supposedly MUCH faster than Edge (and what isn't?).

According to the ATT website, the G3 network is currently available in some major metropolitan areas. The closest to me would be Spokane, WA (300 miles away), so the G3 capability will not be a huge thing for me except when traveling ... and usually when traveling, I'm finding wi-fi networks anyway.

However, even on the Edge network, the iPhone 3G performed MUCH faster, downloading a graphic intensive page in 20-some seconds compared to 50+ seconds for the same page on Edge with the current iPhone.

So, that's the scoop.

If you haven't yet watched the iPhone G3 presentation get yourself over to apple.com and watch the whole thing. There are some cool new features and capabilities, as well as some fun new games and applications being developed to be sold in the new Application Store. I can't wait to get the music one.

Unfortunately, I didn't see "copy and paste" as an added feature yet. For $199, the new iPhone G3 is going to bring lots of new users to the iPhone, which is great for all of us, even those who don't buy it. The more users the more developers will continue to create new cool things for us all to use!

Hope everyone is having a great week and getting lots of Cookie Bonuses!!!

hugs,

g

Just a Few more pictures of the kido's!
The twins are doing great! Quade excepted the blood with no problems! Rylee's heart rate episodes have calmed down! && Madalynn is finally walking all by herself! Things are finally becoming better! Ahhhh i feel as if i can relax for a moment! LoL!

Update - Leg

I know surf was trying to talk to me last night but I kept losing connection and then I just couldn't get back into the room. I had this problem once before and Bruce *greed gave me advice on how to fix it but I forgot, haha.

Anywho, I'm sure it will work today.

After some cortisone shots at the doctor's, it appears all will be well with the leg. However, there will be weeks of monitoring it because sometimes tissue damage can occur up to a week or more afterwards... Yikes.

Luckily, that doesn't seem like the case with this because immediately treatment was received. Woo Hoo.

Thanks everyone! Love you guys

XOXOX

Exhausting.

Ok, last night was completely exhausting. But I will admit that it was also kind of good for me to get a little release out of my system. For reasons that some of you know, I have been majorly pissy for a couple days. So I'm sorry if that has translated into me being moody or short with any of you palz. I am not sorry, however, to the person I voted to mute yesterday.

I don't know if any of my detractors (I won't be calling anyone out) even read this blog, but I think an explanation is still warranted. Backlike was muted because the things he was saying were (1) untrue, (2) offensive, and (3) designed solely to offend and get a rise out of people. For those who weren't there, he started off by describing himself as a girl who others described as a skank. He then said made some offensive remarks about why these fictitious people were being hurtful towards the fictitious person he was pretending to be. Without trying to pat myself on the back, I sniffed him out pretty quickly. He admitted that he was a loser pretending to be something he wasn't and being offensive about it, so I voted to mute him. I did not lobby for people to join in, but jazzy had already had enough of him and joined me. Then he called me the Hitler of the chatroom, and at least 4 others decided that was the last straw.

I am prepared to reap what I sow. I think I proved that last night to at least one detractor. If I do or say something offensive, I am prepared to be muted. (especially if my dex turn out as well as surfy's did) If you think I'm being hypocritical or unfair, tell me, but expect that I will defend myself. I am far less likely to mute someone than some. I don't mute for cursing, innuendo or other similar things. I'm not a cop, and I'm not a parent to anyone in the room. If I find you offensive, I can assure you that many others do as well. But my skin is thick, and I'm comfortable in my choices.

A final point from the lawyer in me. The Constitution and Bill of Rights does not guarantee free speech. It guarantees that you will be free from government oppression of your right to freedom of expression and speech. Last time I checked, I was not a government official. You are free to say anything you like in the room, but your choice is not without consequence. If you choose to be offensive, you run the risk that others in the room will block you from continuing it. In short, you have the right to be a jerk, just as others have the right to stop you from being a jerk in their presence. Thus endeth the Social Studies lesson.

In Praise of Everyone!

Hi all,

This past Thursday (May 29), I received a very special thank you note from a recent visitor to the chat room whose screen name is TwistyR. TwistyR is from the UK and had a little trouble getting to sleep the night before (Wed.), so she decided to pop in and visit with us for a while.

With TwistyR's permission, I'm sharing this note with everyone because her praise and appreciation is directed towards all of you. I also thought this was important for all to read as (given the recent strife and trauma we've experienced recently) her sentiments below reinforced for me that our chat room is a unique haven filled with not only funny but also warm, caring and exceptional people who, with very little effort, can make a complete stranger from the other side of the world feel welcome and entertained 24/7.

I feel truly blessed to be associated with all of you. \ ( ^ _ ^ ) /

Yours,

Jazz <3

--------------------

Hello,

This is TwistyR from the Cookie Bonus chat room. I hope you'll forgive my impertinence for emailing you out of the blue like this but I just wanted to say "thank you" to you and TC and the others - this may sound silly but you all made me feel so welcome last night, in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep, and it was really nice watching you all chat and thinking about the real people on the other side of the world, just come home from work or making supper. I was also really impressed that a little game on the iPhone has generated such a lively, coherent community! I guess the blog is great for putting faces to names and for keeping in touch with one another. Although I notice that you don't tend to use it discuss the highly technical aspects of Cookie Bonus itself ;) My favourite game is Frozen Lexicon, although I've recently ventured into Poker and last night Cookie Bonus where I encountered you lot and certainly failed to score very highly as a result! :)

Anyway I hope you're well, please say thanks and hi to TC and the others for me, and hopefully I'll see you again in the Cookie chat room, although maybe not too soon - I have to get a good night's sleep!

love,

(TwistyR)
